Opening hours at Handforth Library extended

Handforth Library will now open on Saturday morning from this Easter weekend.

Handforth Town Council agreed last year to extend the existing support they provide to Handforth Library and contribute to it on Saturdays, this to take effect from Saturday, 4th April.

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said “We are very pleased to share the news that Handforth Library will now open on a Saturday morning starting from this Easter weekend. Opening hours on a Saturday will be from 9.30am to 1pm. We’d like to say a big thank you to Handforth Town Council for funding this in addition to the Monday afternoons they are also supporting.”

Cllr John Smith from Handforth Town Council said “Last year, Cheshire East Council took the decision to radically reduce the number of hours our library would be open. HTC and Handforth Ward Cllrs were present in the Paddock at weekends to request support from Handforth residents for our efforts to keep the library open as much as possible.

“Despite making representations to CEC, the library weekly opening hours were greatly reduced. At the HTC meeting of September 2025 I proposed a motion to subsidise the opening of the library on Saturdays. This was supported by all councillors. This welcome news that the library will now be open on Saturdays, means many more residents will have access and we urge all to make use of our excellent library.”

Cllr Susan Moore, Chair of Handforth Town Council said “It is vital that all residents should be able to have access to library services and that by supporting the opening of Handforth Library on Saturday’s we hope that more residents will be able to use this valuable service.”
